Pit Bull Hit By Train Gives Back to Her Rescue Organization

molly

Molly the Pit Bull was hit by an Amtrak train in Baltimore. Her story went viral all across the globe in January. To recap, Molly had gone into a tunnel when she was a stray, and ended up in the way of an oncoming train.

The train was unable to stop and no one believed they would find Molly alive. To everyone’s disbelief, Molly survived by absolute miracle. She lost one of her hind legs and suffered injury, but survived.

Her rescue and recovery is all thanks to the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter, known as BARCS.

Molly the Miracle was adopted by the first officer that had arrived at the scene when Molly was hit. He, Kevin McMullen, and his girlfriend Claire Giambi have been caring for Molly since she recovered. No family could be a better match for Molly.

During Molly’s multi-week recovery, BARCS allowed Kevin to visit Molly many times. He cared deeply about making sure Molly got better and healed. He also wished to adopt Molly and take her to his home in Rosedale.

Claire Giambi stated in her Petco Community submission that, “BARCS let Kevin visit Molly while she was recovering. After one of his visits, I asked how she was doing. As he spoke, his eyes filled with tears, which is something I had never seen him do in our six years of dating. In just a week, Molly helped Kevin open up emotionally, which was something I had been trying to do for some time”. View the rest of Molly’s submission for more.

To work towards thanking BARCS for their hard work and incredible efforts, McMullen and Giambi submitted Molly’s story to the Petco Foundation’s Holiday Wishes campaign. Petco gives away between $5,000 and 100,000 to 54 winning organizations. BARCS is in this top 54, and will be receiving their designated amount of money in the coming weeks. Molly and her family hope to get BARCS as much money as they can, in order to pay it forward to the rescue that saved Molly’s life.

As if this was not enough, these finalists can be selected through the People’s choice awards for additional funds. One lucky organization will receive an additional $25,000, two will receive $10,000, and one will receive $5,000. To check out the stories and weigh in, check out the finalists on the Petco Foundation website and cast your vote! Votes can be cast through December 31.

Great job to Molly and her humans for working so hard to give back to those that made Molly’s life possible.
