Dog Saves Owner by Keeping Him Warm in Frigid Temperatures for Almost 24 Hours Straight

Dog saves owner's life by lying on him for nearly 24 hours

A Michigan man, Bob, had gone out for firewood on New Year's Eve. He expected not to venture very far, and so he headed outdoors in nothing but slippers, a shirt, and long johns. The temperature was hovering around 25 degrees.

Bob slipped, and his neck broke in the fall. Fortunately, his dog came to the rescue! The dog kept him warm through the night, barking loudly for help in the process. The man remained outdoors for nearly 24 hours before help arrived.

“I was screaming for help but my nearest neighbor is about a quarter mile away and it was 10:30 pm, but my Kelsey came,” Bob told Independent News.

Through the night Kelsey, Bob's 5-year-old Golden Retriever, kept lying on top of Bob and calling for help. She worked to keep him awake by licking him. While it became difficult for Bob to even raise his voice loud enough to call for assistance, Kelsey kept barking until the neighbor arrived.

The neighbor arrived at 6:30 the following evening. Amazingly, Bob suffered no hypothermia or frost bite. Kelsey had saved her owner by keeping him warm through the night. She was determined to keep Bob alive and safe.

Bob's neck injury healed with ease after surgery, amazing many doctors. Kelsey was a true hero and prevented a serious tragedy from occurring.

While Bob still needs to go through therapy to get himself back to normal, he is doing well in his recovery process.

“I am so thankful for my two heroes,” Bob said. “Kelsey kept me warm, alert, and never stopped barking for help. Dr Colen saved my life and ability to move. They are truly heroes and I will be eternally grateful.”
