Dog Hit By Car Rescued By Compassionate Cyclist

By: Nathan Grant

Jarrett Little was cycling with friends in Columbus, Ohio when out of the corner of his eye, he spotted movement. miraculously, Jarrett had been at the right place at the right time because he just so happened to spot a starving dog, abandoned on the side of the road.

“At first, I thought it was a fox. Then this dog started running across the road toward us. He looked terrible. He was hungry. He was in bad shape, but he seemed happy to see us,” Jarret’s friend, Chris Dixon shared with the Ledger-Enquirer.

The dog, since named Columbo, injured after he was hit by a car, still craved love and food from Jarrett. Clearly, leaving Columbo to fend for himself on the side of the road was not an option. But with only bicycles, Jarrett had to get innovative with getting Columbo to safety.

Jarrett put Columbo’s legs in his rear pockets and allowed the pup to ride piggy-back style.

After their 30-minute cycle ride into downtown Columbus, Jarrett and Columbo happened to meet Andrea Shaw. Andrea is from Maine and was in Ohio for a business trip. Columbia immediately ran up to the woman and began licking like he had known her his whole life.

After listening to Columbo’s story, Andrea knew she had to adopt the dog. In about an hour, Columbo was rescued from the side of the road… and found his forever home!

Before being able to go home with Andrea, Columbo first made a trip to the emergency vet to treat the two fractures Columbo suffered from.

Grateful Doggies, a dog transport company, Columbo was soon welcomed to his new home in Maine with Andrea and her family.

Jarrett couldn’t be happier for Columbo and his happily ever after. “They say the odds of winning the lottery are one in a million. This pup was the winner this week. [An] amazing series of fortunate events,” Little wrote online.
