Poncho hops up and down on the officer’s chest repeatedly, stopping only to place his ear by the cop’s neck and mouth to listen for breathing. After only a moment of this, the crowd goes wild, giggling and cheering Poncho on.

Poncho continues his valiant efforts until the officer stands up. The officer praises Poncho’s great work with a treat.

The Municipal Police of Madrid shared a video of Poncho’s spectacular work in a tweet, claiming that Poncho “did not hesitate for an instant.” Of course, this impressive (and adorable) video has gone viral, racking up shares and likes around the world.

According to those working at the Huntsville Animal Services, Zipper’s smile doesn’t affect her or slow her down. She eats like any other dog, and she loves her treats!

“The jaw deformity is a mystery to us,” a volunteer at Huntsville Animal Services, Erin Webb, told The Dodo. “We aren’t sure what caused it. She does have a huge underbite and her teeth are spread really far apart.”

Estimating from the condition of Zipper when she came to the shelter, it seems she was an outside dog for all of her life. She lacked proper care, causing her to have some hair loss from flea allergies.

After careful observation, it was determined Zipper had given birth multiple times in the past. Her appearance may have been the cause of her being tossed outdoors.

Fortunately, Zipper has a shelter family that loves her and appreciates her special traits.

Zipper’s beaming smile is as wonderful as her personality.

“She is an elderly dog so she is a calm and gentle girl,” Webb explained. “She seems like she would prefer to cuddle over adventures. She does love going outside with the other dogs and made friends with our other elderly dog, Mr. Mike.”

Zipper plays well with other dogs, and she would likely be great with children as well. Zipper’s difficult life has not taken away any of her kindness.

A video was posted of Nubz working to overcome his condition with physical therapy. After seeing this, Havlinek had to apply to adopt him.

Havlinek’s application was approved, and it was time to head to Nubz! He got into his RV and drove 2,800 miles – from Oregon all the way to Pennsylvania.

Nubz was the only dog in his litter to survive the puppy mill from which he was rescued. His paw loss was caused by his mother chewing off his rear paws, a reaction caused from the stress of the conditions and a difficulty with understanding what it meant to be a mom.

“Puppy mills typically have a lot of caged animals. They don’t have a lot of access to moving around,” Laura Magruder, Nubz’s veterinarian at Evergreen Veterinary Hospital in Salem, told KGW.com. “We don’t know if it was the extra stress of the puppy mill or maybe she just wasn’t ready to be a mom, but she ended up taking it out on her puppies, unfortunately.”

Nubz was very carefully attended to thanks to his rescuers, the veterinary staff involved, and the foster mom that cared for him until he was adopted. Nubz was finally ready to move on to the new chapter in his life with his new forever home.

Now at 10-months-old, Nubz is living a healthy life full of happiness! Havlinek is doing everything in his power to give him the best possible life – including providing pricy hydrotherapy and paying $3,000 for Nubz to get custom prosthetics.

While having a disabled dog can be an expense, it is worth every penny. Havlinek feels joy seeing Nubz running and playing the same way any other dog can. He hopes that he can train Nubz to become a therapy dog for wounded veterans as well, so his story can help others in need!

“Take him in for guys who’ve got amputations and stuff, and take him in to show you-you’re not alone,” Havlinek said.

Penni the dog spent her first year and half of life trapped in a drug house basement.

When she was rescued, she was scared of everything. Her owners had abused her constantly, both physically and verbally.

Rescuers were concerned Penni would struggle to get adopted. Then, Blaine DeLuca came into her life and changed it all.

DeLuca wanted to rescue a dog for awhile but had trouble finding his perfect match. Upon meeting Penni, he was warned of her past. The rescuers explained her timid nature and that it might take a little while for her to get comfortable with him.

DeLuca sat against a wall and Penni was slowly introduced. To everyone’s surprise, Penni wasn’t scared at all – she even licked DeLuca and sat on his lap!

In that moment, DeLuca knew he found his dog.

Once he brought Luna home, he realized how traumatized she must have been. Even the simplest things scared her.

“You could see it in every inch of her demeanor,” DeLuca told The Dodo. “She was absolutely terrified of everything under the sun. It was awful. It was an uphill battle for quite a while. I couldn’t even get her to walk. She would just sit in the corner with her head down. Six months, no eye contact; she was a full-blown disaster at that point.”

DeLuca had no intentions of giving up. He worked hard to get Penni comfortable. He had friends over with their dogs and even brought Penni into a home environment with other dogs – all he wanted was to get Penni feeling safe and happy.

While Penni was struggling, DeLuca was living in New Jersey. The weather was rather chilly, making it hard to go outdoors. The two lived downtown and the environment was far too reminiscent of where she came from.

So the pair moved to Las Vegas.

The hot climate of Las Vegas changed the game for Penni. With all the landscape to explore and the warm weather to embrace, Penni’s life began to change. Every hike DeLuca went on, she came along.

“At that point I could really start to see her demeanor change,” DeLuca said. “I realized how much she enjoyed being outdoors. We’ll sit inside and she’s just a normal dog, but as soon as you open the door to go outside, even if it’s just for a walk down the sidewalk, she just bolts into pure happiness.”

As DeLuca made friends with fellow hikers, Penni got more time to explore and meet new people. All the outdoor adventures gave her a new sense of confidence.

Suddenly, she was a happy and loving pit bull.

“She was terrified of anybody that walked anywhere near her,” DeLuca said. “If the door to the house opened, she would be in the bathtub. Now she comes to the door, tail wagging. Even every inanimate object, like if I pulled out a basketball for instance, she would take off in the other direction, versus now, she’ll sit out in the driveway with me when I’m shooting a basketball.”

Now, Penni and DeLuca go on as many adventures as they can.

To zip lining!

Penni loves facing new and exciting challenges. She shows DeLuca endless trust and is entirely brave no matter what they do.

Penni’s transformation is a story that helps change the current perceptions of pit bulls. She proves that pit bulls can do anything – and then some! They are loving and trusting dogs. Penni’s Instagram is great proof of her calm demeanor.

“On the days I’m wanting to go do something and I maybe can’t find anybody to go with me, it’s awesome to know that I’ve always got her,” DeLuca said. “There’s not one time where I’ve ever taken her out where she wasn’t excited, wasn’t ready.”

Penni’s life began in total darkness, trapped indoors. Now, she embraces the sunlight and the great adventures that await outside. Of course, Penni still struggles with some anxieties, she has come farther than anyone could have hoped.

Meatball the dog is full of love ever since being rescued. He just can’t wipe the smile off of his face! 

Meet Meatball! His nickname is “The Chunk”.

He is full of so much love – it’s hard to handle!

You can see his joy as he smiles all the time. 

When Lisa Reilly spotted Meatball on the Fresno Bully Rescue page, she knew she needed to take him home! 

Because Meatball is built like an English Bulldog, too much exercise gets him a little too hot! 

Fortunately, he loves to lounge around on the couch with his family. 

No matter what he does – even when he is upside down – his smile never fades.

According to Meatball’s mom, he is funny, loving, and packed full of energy!

Keep smiling Meatball! We can never get enough of that precious face.

B.B. the poodle was found by rescuers in a dirty cage full of waste. 

The cage was small and completely made of wire. B.B. was in this cage in a basement without any ventilation. 

B.B. was found in a puppy mill around Charlotte, North Carolina. Members of the Humane Society of the United States raided the puppy mill last September, and struggled to figure out information about B.B.

While they could not tell her age, they could tell she had been repeatedly used for breeding. 

B.B. had nursed many litters of puppies, which were likely sold for high profit by the puppy mill owners. 

Rescuers also noted that B.B. likely spent her entire life trapped in her tiny cage. 

“She was very tiny, and she looked like this helpless creature,” Jessica Lauginiger, animal crimes manager at Humane Society, said to The Dodo.

“I put my hand up to the cage, and she’d come up and sniff a little bit. She was very hesitant for human attention, but she wanted it.”

After taking the time to gain B.B.’s trust, Lauginiger was able to take the mistreated dog from her cage. 

B.B. was not the only victim at this puppy mill. In fact, over 150 dogs were found experiencing similar conditions. On top of this, goats and cats were also found. Many animals were used for breeding, while others were being sold.

Thanks to the Humane Society of the United States, the puppy mill has been shut down – and all animals found there have been rescued! 

Because of the conditions, many animals needed immediate medical attention. Cabarrus Animal Hospital, a local veterinary clinic, was able to help care for these animals.

As well, this is how B.B. found her forever home.

Brenda Tortoreo used to work at Cabarrus Animal Hospital as receptionist. “B.B. was in a corner,” Tortoreo explained to The Dodo.

“She looked pitiful. She was scared to death. She wouldn’t eat, she wouldn’t drink and I felt so bad for her. And I said, ‘That’s the one I’m going to take home.’”

Once B.B. was healthy enough, Tortoreo brought her home to live a happy life with two other dogs. 

B.B. had spent so much time trapped inside a small cage, she was not sure how to act in the house. 

“I put B.B. down on the floor, and she kept going in circles — not running, but walking,” Tortoreo said.

“I guess that’s all she knew to do. I put her in the living room, and to go into the hallway, she would not cross that border [between rooms]. I have two granddaughters who live with me, so I would put her in one of my granddaughters’ rooms, and she was terrified of rugs. She just wanted off the rug.”

B.B. also was very unfamiliar with the outdoors and sunlight. She had never had a chance to see the world beyond her cage before.

“She never knew what sun was,” Tortoreo said. “She didn’t know what grass was, and she was terrified of it.”

As time went by, B.B. found things to comfort her in the home. 

“She’s got three big baskets of stuffed animals,” Tortoreo told the Dodo.

“She takes certain stuffed animals, and she’d bring them to bed, and she would line them up like she was nursing them, and she’d lick them, lick them and lick them. It was just so heartbreaking.”

Thanks to Tortoreo and the stuffed animals, B.B. was slowly able to get used to a real life in a loving home. 

“She runs around the house,” Tortoreo said.

“She’s eating like crazy — she was originally about 3 and a half pounds, but I think she’s maybe about 10 pounds now. She loves the grass now, and she loves playing with the other dogs in the backyard.”

B.B.’s love for Tortoreo grows with each passing day. She saved her! 

“About three weeks ago she started licking me — she’d never done that before,” Tortoreo said. “She’s really come out of her shell. She’s my little princess.”

While the puppy mill that B.B. and many other animals lived through has been shut down, there are many other mills still functioning in the United States. There are around 10,000 puppy mills in the nation, with over 150,000 dogs being held in harsh environments and forced to be used for breeding purposes.

A five year old from New Jersey went missing in a wooded area..

The York County Sheriff’s Office was contacted to report the missing boy, Grecco. He had been separated from his family while hiking off of Hussey Hill road.

Fortunately, Maine Search and Rescue Dog handler Dorothy Smail and her dog Tala came to the rescue.

Tala found Grecco about a half mile from where he had last been seen. He was lying down in the woods playing dead. Grecco thought that Tala was a fox and acted fast.

Smail introduced herself to Grecco, and quickly spread the word about finding him. The Maine Game Wardens, York County Deputies, Maine State Police, Action Fire department, and York County EMA were all searching for Grecco.

Both a bloodhound team from the Maine Warden Service and a K9 team from Maine Search and Rescue worked to find Grecco. Dogs are an important asset, as they can search in ways humans are unable.

Thanks to Tala, Grecco is safe and sound. Besides being wet, tired and hungry, he suffered no injuries.

The Maine Wardens Service reminds everyone to stick together when hiking and to try and keep on marked trails. If someone is lost after 15-20 minutes of searching, be sure to contact the Warden Service to get a professional search time right away. Stay safe!

Even after being rescued, the dogs held each other tightly. The bigger dog protected her little friend before, and never planned to stop doing so.

As time went on, the dogs became increasingly more comfortable in their new home.
