The “Saddest Dog In The World” Finds A New Home Just Moments Before Being Put To Sleep

If you love heart warming stories then this one is for you… But it isn’t all happy and warming at first…

You may have heard about the dog nicknamed “The Saddest Dog In The World” who has been circling the Internet for a while now.

Her name is Lana and she has a big heart but she’s had a very hard life so far…

In October of 2015, her photo went viral prompting thousands of people applying to adopt this beautiful Labrador.

As a baby pup she was terrified of everything. According to Dahlia Ayoub of Mighty Mutts “She was literally the size of my hand” and had to compete for food as the runt of the litter. “She was just terrified of everything” according to Dahlia.

Lana went from one foster home to the next. When she turned five years old, she thought she’d been adopted finally.

But after Lana “snapped” at her new owner when being fed, things got a little nervous around the house and the owner sought protection for her own young kids.

Lana was returned to the shelter, yet again…

It was during this moment when Lana hit rock bottom and “It’s almost like her world shut down,” Ayoub said…

This is when her picture was taken and shared with the world. Rescue Dogs Match received 4,000 applicants to adopt Lana, as well as over $15,000 in donations.

In January of 2016, they thought she was given another chance.

But they were wrong…

In a Facebook post, Rescue Dogs Match wrote: “May 14th is Lana’s birthday (she will be 3). Please help find her a foster or forever home. Lana only has until May 20th.”

When people asked on Facebook what would happen to her they replied “Lana would likely be put to sleep…”

“Lana’s adoption did not work out because people want a dog they can pet and play with,” Brenda Dobranski, founder of Rescue Dogs Match, told The Dodo.

“Lana is a silly fun girl but she is not the type of dog that will let you give belly rubs to and sleep in bed with. She loves to have a job.”

Clearly Lana had all the odds stacked against her. People didn’t want her because of her past history.

However, here we are in May 15th 2017, and just days after the internet begged for her to be adopted, we have such great news!!
She has a new home!

The Canadian-based rescue centre wrote on its webpage: “We are happy to report that Lana has found a foster home and a new training program. RDM would like to thank everyone for their concern and support and we will keep you updated.”

According to Rescue Dogs Match they posted on their Facebook page the latest update “Update: We are happy to report that Lana has found a foster home and a training program. To clarify May 20th is Lana’s move date, NOT a euthanasia date. RDM does not give up on their dogs, we have had more difficult dogs in our program for longer than Lana and have successfully placed them. RDM would like to thank everyone for their concern and support and we will keep you updated.”

Updates keep rolling in too, “Lana update: We have narrowed down 3 forever homes for Lana. Will update with progress made. We want to thank everyone for all their positive emails. We want to be able to respond to all of them but our email has been deactivated by google due to the high volume of emails. Hoping to get this resolved asap – any google employee followers if you can give any suggestions on doing this please feel free to pm us.”
