Brandon Lesky loves animals. In fact, he loves them so much that he immediately started to feed a stray mother cat and her kittens when he found them outside of his office.

He works at a news station, generally at night, and he noticed that the cats looked hungry and scared. There was a point where he saw the mother and other kitten were not coming back and there was one kitten left behind.

Source: Brandon Lesky

The kitten, later named Momo, would walk around the news station’s parking lot and yard. Lesky noticed that the other employees would try pet it and feed it and so he thought he would continue to feed the kitten too.

The kitten seemed very scared of people, but she would get close enough to eat the food left for her.

The employees at the news station were pretty upset when they received an email telling them that feeding the cat was a health hazard and they needed to stop it immediately.

Lesky decided to take some action.

Lesky had been thinking about adopting a pet and thought this was the perfect opportunity. He decided that he would take the kitten home. He was able to safely catch the kitten and bring her to a new loving home.

Source: Brandon Lesky

He began to call her Momo.

She didn’t like her new home very much and was still very scared at first. She would hide under furniture and hiss. But Momo slowly began warming up to her new home. “It seems like she wants to like people more than she does, but something is stopping her,” Lesky told The Dodo. “She didn’t look battered when I got her, but we figure she may have had a bad run-in with a human at some point.”

Source: Brandon Lesky

He says that she is still skittish around people, but she seems extremely happy. “She’s quite shy, but if you can get her to start purring, she won’t stop,” Lesky told the Dodo. “She’s the epitome of a lazy cat. She’ll scratch at the post I got her and play when I pull out one of her toys, but otherwise, she’s asleep on her blanket underneath one of the end tables in my room.”

Does this sound like your dream job? Well, pack up your things and get ready to move to the blissful Greek island, Syros.

Source: God’s Little People Cat Rescue

Yes, you read that right. The sanctuary is located on a Greek island, and the job will require you to care for 55 adorable cats and kittens. Are you already on the plane?

Wait, There’s More!

You also get free accommodations in a house on a beautiful nature preserve on said Greek island Syros.

Source: God’s Little People Cat Rescue

The job posting specifies, “You’ll no doubt thrive best if you are the type of person who appreciates nature and likes tranquility — and rest comfortably in your own company. That said, you’ll never feel lonely in the company of the cats and you’ll be expected to live with a small handful of cats in your house.”

Source: God’s Little People Cat Rescue

The posting goes on to explain that there are no candidate requirements. However, “from experience, the job is most suitable for someone 45+ years of age, who’s responsible, reliable, honest, practically inclined — and really, with a heart of gold! Apart from feeding the cats, the cats will also need heaps of love and attention.”

Source: God’s Little People Cat Rescue

Is This Real Life?

Yes, this a true PAID position, but we’re pretty sure it won’t be hard to share. It already has 30,000 likes on Facebook, after all!

“He fought with everything he had to keep me from closing the cage after hours sitting on the floor with him. I was attached immediately and decided that I would take a risk and try hiding a kitten in my college dorm where animals are obviously not allowed,” Erin told Love Meow.

A Forbidden Rescue

So Erin adopted Bailey and brought him back to her dorm room. Within a week, Erin was caught and told that she had 48 hours to remove the cat from her dorm room.

Source: Erin Merryn

Erin told Love Meow, “I was heartbroken. My parents already had a dog and two cats at home, and they were not about to take another one in.”

After tons of research and phone calls, Erin found an 80-year-old woman who was willing to adopt Bailey. Erin was devastated but knew she found a good home for him.

Source: Erin Merryn

Shortly after rehoming Bailey, Erin found out that he wasn’t getting along with the older woman’s other cat. The older woman had decided to rehome Bailey once again, and Erin leaped at the opportunity to take him back. Thankfully, it was winter break.

“I plotted for a month to convince my parents to let me keep him. Mom finally gave in. Dad never said yes but I won and got my way,” Erin told Love Meow.

The rest is history.

A New Addition to the Family

Soon enough, Erin was pregnant with a child. She noticed that Bailey loved snuggling up on her pregnant belly and hoped that he would accept his new baby sister. Erin was concerned “But it was love at first sight, and I captured some darling photos of her as a newborn with him,” Erin told Love Meow.

Bailey and Abby had an immediate bond. Wherever Abby went, Bailey was nearby. He would snuggle with her and watch her constantly.

One day, Abby picked up a book to read, and Bailey immediately plopped down to listen. It was as if he loved hearing the stories. He would nuzzle her chin and look at her admiringly. He was also a really attentive listener, making him a great tool for Abby to learn to read.

One fall day in October, the governor of North Carolina, Roy Cooper, received quite a surprise! He and his family were going about their normal day when they spotted this tiny stray kitten in the garage.

Governor Cooper and his family were so excited to see a stray kitten in the garage but at the same time they were concerned for its wellbeing. So much so, they checked it for any signs of pain, illness, or cuts and once they were sure that she was all right, they made the choice to add her to their family. The Cooper family already has quite a few fur babies and they just felt like she would fit in perfectly.

Source: WRAL News

“We don’t know where she came from or how she got there, but we’ve started calling her Jennyanydots (after the character from ‘Cats’),” a member of the household wrote on the First Pets of North Carolina Facebook page. The family has already seen some great changes in her and she seems to be enjoying her new life.

Screenshot: WRAL News

The Coopers say that she seems much happier now than the day that they found her. She has become friendly and very talkative. The other pets in the Executive Mansion have welcomed her as well. There are four other cats and two dogs in the Cooper family and Jenny seems to be incredibly happy that she has had the opportunity to join them.

The governor and his family could not be happier with their newest addition to their family.

At less than a day old, 5 ginger kitten siblings were found abandoned in Phoenix, Arizona.

Fighting Against the Odds

“They were diagnosed with panleukopenia that was likely from their mom and that’s what caused her to abandon them,” Melinda Blain of Bottle Baby Fosters told Love Meow.

Panleukopenia is highly lethal in young kittens. Although it is rare today, it was once a common disease in cats. Melinda decided she would do whatever she could to help these defenseless babies survive.

“Unfortunately, three of them weren’t strong enough to make it,” Melinda added.

Source: Melinda Blain @bottlebabyfosters

The two surviving kittens, Pippi and Dexter, were fighters. Melinda needed to tube-feed them constantly to ensure they were receiving vital nutrients. She also kept them warm and cuddled with them every chance she could.

Source: Melinda Blain @bottlebabyfosters

“They had a tremendous will to live! Pippi was the runt of the litter and was the strongest fighter and Dexter has always been a total sweetheart,” Melinda told Love Meow. “I could tell that they were going to be all right once they started purring again and exploring their surroundings, and it was about two weeks after their initial diagnosis.”

Source: Melinda Blain @bottlebabyfosters

Overcoming the Odds

While Dexter graduated to bottle feeding, Pippi still needed to be tube-fed. Melinda couldn’t help but marvel at their different, yet equally amazing, personalities.

Source: Melinda Blain @bottlebabyfosters

“Dexter is the biggest baby of the gingers and has the strongest appetite. He also is the purriest after food time and loves snuggles.”

While Pippi is the adventurous explorer of the two. Eventually, she was strong enough to stop tube-feeding.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BloXSFtgw8H/

“She is totally off the tube now as well and has perfect poop. Pippi was always the smallest and weakest of the gingers, but she has done an amazing job of fighting panleukopenia and is through the worst of it.”

Due to the amazing obstacles this duo has had to face together, Melinda wants to adopt them out together. They are so bonded to one another.

Source: Melinda Blain @bottlebabyfosters

“They’re super sweet with each other and they are going to be adopted together once they’re ready!”

Hannah jumped in and offered for her rescue group, Orphan Kitten Club, to spay and neuter the couple’s cats to ensure that no more breeding took place. The woman was shocked and incredibly grateful for this kind gesture.

Source: Hannah Shaw @kittenxlady

“The couple clearly cared about the cats, but they were in over their heads,” Hannah elaborates. “It’s usually a lack of education or a lack of resources or both… You solve those issues by providing education and resources. Now the couple is going to be able to sterilize their cats, they are going to end the cycle of reproduction, and they can throw away that ‘Free Kittens’ sign.

Source: Hannah Shaw @kittenxlady

Hannah goes on to explain why signs like this can be so detrimental, “When it comes to ‘Free Kittens’, the problem isn’t that there’s no money being exchanged, the problem is that there’s no protocol in place for their adoption. If someone’s giving away free kittens who haven’t seen a vet, they’re not preparing them for success.”

Source: Hannah Shaw @kittenxlady

Saved and Ready for Forever Homes

Thankfully, these kitties went to the right foster home that day. Hannah scooped them up and brought them home. At just 1.7-1.8 pounds, she named the little babies PeeWee, Marge, and Dottie.

Source: Hannah Shaw @kittenxlady

Upon moving into their new home, Miranda and her family came across a note from the previous owners.

A Long-Term Tenant

The note explained that there is a feral cat living in the backyard. He has an old injury and they had been feeding him for quite some time. They asked that the new owners take on this duty as well.

Source: IG/WOTTRNS

Right on schedule, the feral cat came to visit the new owners. “We immediately looked out the back sliding glass door and he was looking at us through the door,” Miranda told The Dodo.

Source: IG/WOTTRNS

The previous owners were asking a big favor of the new family. Luckily, they were cat people, too!

“We started laughing because we currently have five cats, all but one have been rescued,” Miranda explained. “The house we lived in previously, people used to drop off their cats there and we took them in.”

Source: IG/WOTTRNS

So Miranda and her family continued feeding the feral cat and hoped to do one better. They hoped to build the cat’s trust. This way, they could take him to the vet so that his previously injured paw could be looked at.

Source: IG/WOTTRNS

Although a slow process, Miranda has been making progress.

Source: IG/WOTTRNS

“He used to hide anytime we came to the door. Now we can sit outside with him,” she said. “He will come up and eat now when the screen door is open, which he wouldn’t do before. He also now comes to the door and meows to let us know that he needs food.”

Source: IG/WOTTRNS

When asked why she was helping the cat, Miranda explained, “If you have the means to take care of an animal in need, you should. There is nothing like earning their trust and helping them live out their time comfortably and feeling loved.”

Source: IG/WOTTRNS

We admire Miranda’s determination for helping this poor cat. Be sure to share this article to inspire others to do the same!

Orphaned & Blind

June was found by a member of the community, and her mother was believed to have been killed. Holly Gilbert-Jones, a volunteer for DARG told The Dodo, “There were no brothers or sisters.”

The DARG volunteers instantly noticed that June was blind, but thankfully, June doesn’t know any better as she was born this way. “She obviously has no understanding or idea that she was any different than any of the other cats,” Holly said to The Dodo. “She would be zooming up and down the hallway.”

Source: Andrew Duff and Rebecca Warner

Holly became June’s foster and had nothing but positive reviews about June. Holly explained to The Dodo, “There’s something about her. It’s like she radiates this joyful energy from her. Everyone who sees her just kind of falls in love. She has this gift of winning people over.”

Daddy’s Girl

Soon enough, sweet June was spotted by Andrew Duff and Rebecca Warner via a Facebook post, and the rest is history. The couple decided that they were adopting her right away.

Source: Andrew Duff and Rebecca Warner

When Andrew and Rebecca went to meet little June, they knew they were right in trusting their gut. She was perfect!

Sweet, little June instantly bonded with Andrew. “She just curled into his neck and stayed there,” Rebecca told The Dodo. “On the way home, I got a little tag that said ‘Daddy’s Girl’ because I realized, ‘Well, that’s it. He’s become hers.’”

Source: Andrew Duff and Rebecca Warner

Lucky & Adventurous

As with many new adopted pets, it was now time to meet the rest of June’s fur siblings. Rebecca and Andrew had two other cats, Leia and Leeloo.

“We were a little bit worried about June integrating with them, and the first couple of weeks, there was a lot of hissing and chaos,” Andrew explained.

Source: Andrew Duff and Rebecca Warner

Thankfully, with June’s sweet (but persistent) nature, it was only a matter of time before the two other cats warmed up to her.

“She was determined to be with them, and was very persistent about playing with them,” Rebecca said. “Now they’re very much sisters, and they love each other.”

June is loving her new home. She has amazing parents and siblings and even gets to go outside on a leash and harness. You would never guess that this courageous little girl is blind!

“She’s braver than our other two cats. Despite the fact that she can’t see, she just goes. She leaps off things and figures things out. We’ve taken her on holiday before, and within a couple of minutes, she’s completely mapped the new space. When we take her for walks, it’s amazing to see her react to sounds,” Andrew explained. “She’ll hear a bee around the flowers, and she’ll leap at it. Or she’ll hear birds and suddenly turn.”

Spread the word to help other kittens get their loving forever homes just like June did!

Love at First Sight

During their visit, they happened upon Bronson, a 3-year-old 33-pound orange cat. They fell in love immediately!

“When we first saw him, we were shocked at how big he was,” Wilson told The Dodo. “Neither of us had seen a cat that size before and we thought he was so cute and cuddly, like a large stuffed animal! We immediately went over to gaze at him from outside his room.”

Source: Mike Wilson

The couple waited to be interviewed by the shelter so that they could meet with Bronson. However, they ended up having to leave for work.

There is a common practice with shopping: If you are on the fence about an item, leave the store. If you find yourself still thinking about the item after some time, go back and get it!

Source: Mike Wilson

Well, this was the case with Mike, Megan, and the fat cat, Bronson.

Wilson told The Dodo, “On the way to work, we were talking about him nonstop and started regretting not sticking around for him. We started feeling like he would be adopted in no time because of how quickly we were drawn to him.”

The couple decided to head back to the shelter as soon as they could. They returned the following morning, right as the shelter opened, and lo behold, Bronson was still there!

Source: Mike Wilson

The shelter told Mike and Megan what they knew of Bronson’s story.

Bronson had come into the shelter after his elderly owner passed away. His name was actually “Fat Kat;” despite this being a very true, descriptive name for him, the shelter quickly changed his name to Bronson. Additionally, the shelter was told that even though Bronson had lived with other pets, he usually kept to himself. However, the shelter staff’s biggest question – his weight – went unanswered. “Their best guess was that he was fed either too much kibble or was being fed table scraps,” Wilson explained to The Dodo.

Source: Mike Wilson

The shelter wanted to immediately tackle the issue of Bronson’s weight. At 33 pounds, he was at severe risk for cancer, diabetes, and heart disease. The shelter’s interviewer warned Mike and Megan that Bronson’s adopter would need to keep up with diet and exercise to help Bronson lose weight. Additionally, because Bronson could not groom himself, his adopters would need to groom him daily.

Finally, the couple was allowed to meet with the big guy.

“He was quite unkempt and had a lot of dander in his hair, mostly due to him not being able to groom himself because of his size,” Wilson said. “I just wanted to take him home, clean him up and care for him.”

Bronson was – to the couple’s surprise – very affectionate. He sought pets and love from them immediately.

The decision was made. Bronson was coming home with them.

Bronson’s New Home

As expected, Bronson was a little shy in his new home. But he was surprisingly social with his two, new cat siblings. Slowly but surely, he emerged more and more from his shell.

“When we first brought him home, he kind of did his own thing throughout the day and stayed in our bedroom,” Wilson said. “Nowadays, he is waiting for us by the door with our other cats when we get home, he runs out to the kitchen if he hears a ruckus of cans opening and hangs out with the other cats in the living room in the daytime. He is actually a really social kitty.”

On the Horizon: His Own Indoor Playground

Mike and Megan were the perfect couples to adopt Bronson as they build indoor cat furniture aimed at promoting exercise for indoor cats. Although Bronson isn’t quite ready to use the furniture, Mike and Megan are optimistic; they have worked hard to help Bronson with his weight loss.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bk6UZ3EHRkx/

“His weight loss journey has been going very well and we can already see a change in his shape, where he has a lot more definition in his arms and shoulders,” Wilson explained. “His front arms used to buckle a little when he jumped down from our couch and now he jumps down without a problem.” Wilson goes on to say, “Although we originally wanted a kitten to help us test the furniture ideas with our other two cats, we saw Bronson and kind of forgot why we were there. We saw how big he was and thought it would be so fun to work with him to get healthy and then one day get on the furniture.”

An Instant Celebrity

Bronson’s weight and loving personality attract a lot of attention.

“Everybody that meets him can’t believe how big he is and instantly want to pet him,” Wilson said. “When we first brought him to the vet, everyone took turns coming in our room to meet him until there were like five vets and techs in the room at once. It makes us feel so lucky to have him.”

Mike and Megan are obsessed with their new friend. Even though Bronson sure loves his affection, they believe that he doesn’t quite love HOW MUCH attention he gets from his parents.

Source: Mike Wilson

“It’s hard not to walk past him and pet him and we probably do that more than he would prefer,” Wilson said. “Sometimes we’re like, ‘Hey buddy!’ and go to give him pets and he just grunts and turns around. He’s like a celebrity.”

Stephanie Pabon works as an animal rescuer. She frequently fosters young kittens, helping them grow into strong, healthy cats. Thankfully, she doesn’t go at it alone; her seven-year-old daughter Bela has been a tremendous help.

A Match Made in Heaven

Recently, Stephanie brought home a litter of three-week-old kittens who had been found outside a local warehouse. They were just little babies and needed tons of love and attentive care. Bela became an expert at bottle-feeding the precious, young kittens.

Source: Stephanie Pabon

Stephanie told The Dodo, “She took the time to correctly learn how to bottle-feed. Bela is so amazing with all the kittens and cats that come through here.”

There was something special about a particular kitten in the group, Helen. Bela and Helen had bonded immediately.

After helping the kittens grow for ten weeks, it was time to release them to Billy the Kidden Rescue, a local, Virginia-based rescue where the Pabons volunteer.

Source: Stephanie Pabon

Although it’s always tough to say goodbye to the loving cats and kittens, this time was especially hard for Bela. She tried to be strong but couldn’t hold back her tears.

“I saw her puddle of tears,” Stephanie said. “She has not bonded like that to any of the others.”

A Foster Fail

Three days after dropping Helen and her littermates off at the rescue, Stephanie noticed that Bela still wasn’t acting like herself.

Stephanie decided that Helen needed to come back to Bela and that meant, adopting her for good. It turns out that Helen was a foster fail. There was no way that Stephanie could let her go to another home; her forever home was with the Pabons.

Bela and Helen’s reunion was an emotional one.

“The two are reunited and Helen follows her everywhere and cries if she goes out of sight,” Stephanie told The Dodo. “They have a bond that can’t be touched. I think they needed each other.”

Both Bela and Helen benefit from this bond. Helen, of course, found a loving home and companion. Bela experienced the joy of rescuing and raising an animal of her own.

Stephanie adds, “Bela is easily overwhelmed at times. Helen calms her, and Helen needed someone to help her live and grow and make that change from feral to friendly.”

We’re surprised if you’ve read this amazingly touching story without a tissue at hand.
