In 1997, David came home with a black cat. After 7 years, the cat’s coat began developing white spots. The cat, named Scrappy, steadily gained a marble-like fur.

David recalls when he met Scrappy. “Scrappy was sitting on his own and, though he was cute, we didn’t think others would regard him to be as cute as his siblings.”

“I made the decision to take Scrappy as I knew he would be the last one to be taken, if at all.”

The likely reason for Scrappy’s fur color change is a very unusual skin condition for cats, vitiligo.

The good news is that this skin condition does not cause any health problems – it just caused Scrappy to go from a black cat to a marble-like one!

Scrappy is 19-years-old and is perfectly happy and healthy! His age doesn’t stop him at all.

Scrappy gained his name because of the frequent “scraps” he picks with the cats in the area.

“Despite his age, he [picks scraps] with the neighborhood cats… I guess you could say that he rules the street,” Dave said.

Skin condition or not, Scrappy is one tough kitty.

It must be hard for other cats not to feel jealous of Scrappy’s incredible fur color!

David says that Scrappy is a “diva” and can be difficult to get pictures of.

“He isn’t the best cat to take photos of as most of the time he looks the other way or walks away… He can also be quite grumpy at times.”

Despite how grumpy he can be, Scrappy is very loving with David. While no one else can get too cuddly with Scrappy, David gets to play with him and rub his belly.
